Umpire: Jason Dixon
Jason Dixon has been involved in polo for most of his life, having started at the age of 10 through the Pony Club. As a young player, he spent several years living, working and training in Argentina. He went on to become a professional player with a 6-goal handicap, competing at a high level for over 20 years.
During his playing career, Jason represented and captained both England and Great Britain in several Federation of International Polo (F.I.P.) World Championships, where he won both silver and bronze medals.
He has won numerous major high-goal tournaments in the UK, including the Queen’s Cup, Warwickshire Cup and Indian Empire Shield, and has also enjoyed international success with victories in countries such as Australia, India and Pakistan.
Alongside his playing career, Jason was deeply involved in coaching. For over a decade, he contributed to the Hurlingham Polo Association’s (HPA) coaching system, serving as a senior coach, assessor and member of the coaching committee.
After retiring from professional polo, Jason turned his focus to umpiring. He is now a regular official during the British high-goal season and has umpired matches in tournaments such as The King’s Coronation Cup, The Queen’s Cup at Guards Polo Club and The Gold Cup (British Open) at Cowdray Park. He has officiated numerous finals in the UK and across Europe, including the French Open and German High Goal Championships.
Jason has also umpired at top-level tournaments around the world, including the Argentine Open and Hurlingham Open at the prestigious 40-goal level. His career as both a player and an umpire has taken him to five continents – including the USA, Argentina, Chile, China, India and various locations across Europe.
Bolou
Bolou, the Danish fine jewellery brand renowned for its delicate craftsmanship, is proudly donating winner’s gifts to the polo players at the Krenkerup Invitational.
The winner’s gifts include cufflinks, keyrings, and stick pins, all crafted in silver and hand-engraved with a motif created by Eddie Kennedy specifically for Krenkerup Polo.
He began his career as a stunt rider in the film industry and has painted horses throughout his life, exhibiting his work in galleries in London.
Eddie started his polo career working with Memo Gracida, the legendary Mexican ten-goal player, in the UK. He later managed the Maple Leaf team for five years, overseeing a string of 100 polo ponies. When the Maple Leaf team was disbanded, Prince Jefri of Brunei entered the UK polo scene as a new patron, acquiring both the string of ponies and the Coworth Park Polo Complex, which was subsequently expanded to accommodate 200 horses.
This period gave Eddie the opportunity to manage and work with some of the world’s top players, including all seven of the renowned Heguy brothers, each rated at the maximum ten-goal handicap. He later moved to Dubai, where he established a new polo club and equestrian centre.
Eddie has since taught at Berkshire Polo Club and Guards Polo Club in the UK, and has also run international clinics in Moscow, Zurich, and India. He supports Krenkerup Polo as both a mentor and an HPA coach.
It is both exciting and fantastic that a high-level polo tournament is now being held here in Guldborgsund, with participants from several countries. I am very much looking forward to throwing in the first ball and attending the tournament. It is a top-level event, and it is only possible because Krenkerup Estate has established a professional polo field – the only one of its kind in all of Scandinavia.
Polo is a sport that requires space, and therefore it is ideally suited to the beautiful regions of Denmark, where we are fortunate to have a bit more room. I would like to extend a big thank you to Krenkerup for their commitment and willingness to invest.
I am confident that the tournament will attract people who don’t normally visit Lolland-Falster, and it is a fantastic way to showcase our wonderful area. Hopefully, this won’t be the last time we host a polo tournament in Guldborgsund, and I hope many will stop by so more people can discover both the sport of polo and Guldborgsund itself.
